[Atlanta] Jewish-Christian Panel Discussion on Substance Abuse and Recovery in the LGBTQ Community

  • The Phillip Rush Center Annex 1530 DeKalb Ave NE Atlanta, GA, 30307 United States

The stress that comes from daily battles with discrimination and stigma is a principle driver of higher rates of substance use, as gay and transgender people turn to tobacco, alcohol, and other substances as a way to cope with these challenges. And a lack of culturally competent health care services also fuels high substance-use rates among gay and transgender people.

Join us for a panel discussion featuring faith leaders from the Jewish and Christian communities to discuss Faith + LGBTQ-specific approaches to substance abuse and addiction recovery.

Panelists include: Reverend Duncan Teague, Rabbi Judi Beiner, Phillip Washington, and Richard La Madeleine. The panel will be moderated by Audrey Galex. Each panelist will present on faith-based approaches to substance abuse and addiction recovery and will take questions from the audience.

Resources on faith-based recovery programs will also be available.

This program is co-sponsored by The Health Initiative,  Atlanta Pride, and Positive Impact and made possible by a grant from the H.A.M.S.A. program of Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta.
