In February 2015 we started a discussion about how popular pressures around gender and sexuality are confining American teens. On Thursday, March 10, we’ll welcome back our colleagues from Groundspark to continue our conversation sparked by the film, Straightlaced: How Gender's Got Us All Tied Up. Eileen and Serian, our facilitators, will lead an interactive workshop to provide us tools that further our awareness and strengthen our advocacy efforts for LGBT+ youth. It is not necessary to have been in attendance for the previous screening.
More about The Welcoming Communities Project:
The Jewish Community of Birmingham is participating in a first-of-its-kind community-wide version of the Welcoming Communities Project which aims to help regional synagogues, schools, and agencies become welcoming places for GSD (Gender and Sexually Diverse) Jews in both theory and practice. Over the course of the last year, representatives from Birmingham's Jewish Community have gathered together to learn, discuss, debate, and create a plan of action to help make all of Birmingham's Jewish agencies, more welcoming. They have also expanded their reach to the greater Birmingham community, working in partnership with LGBT+ organizations and individuals to foster inclusion everywhere.
