Celebrating 10 Years as Atlanta's Best Costume Party & Fundraiser!
Purim off Ponce is SOJOURN's annual fundraiser. Now in its tenth year, Purim off Ponce has been known as one of Atlanta's greatest costume parties. Great drinks, dancing, and of course, drag queens! All proceeds from Purim off Ponce support the important work of SOJOURN.
Purim off Ponce 2016 honored the work of Jeff Graham, executive director of Georgia Equality. In recognition of his longtime support of SOJOURN, Jeff received the Michael Jay Kinsler Rainmaker Award.
Jeff is the executive director of Georgia Equality, an organization that works to advance fairness, safety and opportunity for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities throughout Georgia. Jeff began advocating on LGBT and AIDS related issues as a college student in the mid-1980s and has continued his advocacy on these issues since that time. He has been involved in a wide variety or grassroots and legislative advocacy campaigns and has served as either an executive director or board member to a number of local and national organizations working on issues related to gay and transgender rights, access to healthcare, community empowerment and HIV/AIDS. Jeff has received numerous awards and recognition for both his advocacy and nonprofit work from organizations such as the National Center for Human Rights Education, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Atlanta City Council, The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, ACLU of Georgia and several local publications and organizations within the LGBT and HIV communities. He is a current board member of ProGeorgia and co-chairs the national Equality Federation.
During his tenure at Georgia Equality he has helped secure employment protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity in numerous municipalities and has been instrumental in the passage of statewide legislation to provide stronger protections for all students from bullying and harassment. He has provided leadership on the work to defeat a harmful religious exemption bill in the legislature that would create a vehicle to discriminate against the LGBT community. He served as a Grand Marshal of the Atlanta Pride Parade in 1999, 2010 and 2012 and has recently been named one of the 55 most influential Atlantans by Atlanta Magazine. Jeff has been a longtime supporter of SOJOURN and The Rainbow Center and was instrumental in its transition to independent agency, serving as a resource and advocate.
Jeff currently resides in the Ormewood Park neighborhood of Atlanta with his husband of twenty-five years, Peter. They share their home with Josie, the spoiled-rotten dog, and Terrance and Philip, the out-of-control cats.
About the Michael Jay Kinsler Rainmaker Award
In 2014, the Rainmaker Award was renamed in honor of Michael Jay Kinsler. Michael was an active member of Congregation Bet Haverim and the Atlanta LGBT community and dedicated much of his life to ensuring that gay and lesbian Jews had a place to worship where they could find solace and pride. We hope to honor Michael's legacy of inclusion and action for many years to come.
